    The one player other pros said they would pay to see. I was lucky to see goal number 9 in person. Neutral site game vs the B’s at Richfield Coliseum near Cleveland when the Lumberjacks were the farm team of the Penguins. I have that goal on tape. I used to have it on youtube. ABC Gary Thorne and Bill Clement make the call. Thorne said it looked like practice. Like everyone just stood and watched him. In person it really did.

    Yeah Gretzky is good but Lemieux is the great one.

    @dtassadar1 Wrong….you are comparing apples to oranges. Taking ML’s first 745 games in his prime and comparing them to WG’s entire career. In ML’s first 745 games he averaged 2 pts per game. I’m to lazy to do wayne’s 745 games as it would fall in between seasons but if we take the high and low…first 696 games then WG has a 2.56 pts per and if we take the first 774 games he’s got a 2.50 pts per game. If you’d like to caluculate the 745 than be my guest…either way you still lose…

    i honestly think if mario’s health he would have ended as the best ever and we would have won the cup in 93 and at least once more

    im convinced that if mario played more, he totally wouldve got close or tied gretzky

    @doublestrokeroll You call his back problems excuses and therefore show how oblivious you are. Lemieux suffered from a congenital defect with his spine that made him prone to back pain. He also fought through a staph infection after surgery that left him bedridden for 3 months and beat Hodgkin’s lymphoma. If “NOT being injured” makes players great as you say, then Lemieux was incredible for being great despite his health. Also, 66 had higher points/game than 99 before retiring the first time.

    You’re obviously ignorant if you just look at the records. Gretzky had a team behind him, and was healthy. Mario had neither of those things..Mario was better

    @SmashBrosFan19 Now you just sound desperate…lol.

    How they played? Great logic you’ve go there.

    Gretzky must have been playing really bad to get those 50 goals in 39 games, multiple 200+ point seasons, 92 goals in a season, 163 assists in a season, most 3 or more goal games in a season, most goals and assists per game in one season, most , assists and points, in a single playoff season….fuck there isn’t a record around that WG doesn’t beat ML. But hey it’s how he plays right?…lol

    April 28, 2010 at 4:17 pm

    Whatever. The points don’t matter either. Just because someone plays longer to get those points doesn’t make them the best. There’s players who have records that Gretzky doesn’t because they played even longer. Does that make them better idiot? It all comes down to how they played, and Mario was the best player.

    @MATH750 nope…number 2. 2nd best. Sorry.

    Fuck, and I’m not even a gretzky fan…..you droolers are funny.

    @SmashBrosFan19 Yeah more what if’s and would of’s and could of’s. None of that matters. what matters is the numbers on the boards. You make excuses about back problems and “if he would have played..yadda yadda..” That’s part of what makes guys great. NOT being injured. And who’s the retard who can’t understand that my point was that “would of’s” don’t count for gretzky either. He “would have” had 300 points in one year if he didn’t get traded…That is the type of argument you are making.

    What can we say. Hes just the BEST player of all time.

    Does anyone remember the one-timer from the boards almost below the goal line against I believe Bill Ranford of Boston in 96 or 97? The most unbelievable shot ever!!!

    When did I ever say anything about Crosby retard? I just said he’s better than good. What if WG would’ve stayed with the Oilers? What if ML was healthy during his career for God’s sake! He had cancer, back problems, and all kinds of shit. He was never healthy when he played. And WG had a team behind him. ML didn’t. ML had a higher point average per game after he left due to his battle with cancer. When he returned and was 40 years old with back problems, the average went down slightly below WG.

    @SmashBrosFan19

    nope sorry…that’s just your bias talking. The numbers don’t support you.

    And as for crosby being the next Gretzky well….nope. He’s already fallen WAY to far behind gretzky’s pace to ever catch up. Even single season records haven’t been close to being threatened in decades.

    Mario was close to wayne…but not quite. And spare me any of the ‘would have’ arguments cause I can play that with gretzky too…what if WG would have stayed with the oilers?

    I would love to see Mario school Ovechkin so badly. Ovechkin’s goals aren’t even good. He just shoots it and it finds its way in. Mario was in his own league

    To who ever said Crosby is better than Lemieux… If you live in Pittsburgh, move now. Seeing that Lemieux is pretty much on the same level as Wayne Gretzky, you’re telling me that Crosby is better than Gretzky now?Sorry. I’m from Pittsburgh and love Crosby but he in no way shape or form has passed up Gretzky nor Lemieux
